Membership : Why Become a Member? ...

Is Engineering for you? What is Engineering? It is a creative occupation that involves judgement, scientific understanding, decision making, working in teams and facing exciting challenges in harness nature for the benefit og manking. Engineering needs people with a range of telants such as communication skills, negotiating skills analytical and practical mind, handworking, with good decision making skills and a good sence of hurmour. Engineering about improving the public's the quality of life and living, but having due regard for the public's interest, health and safety.

This is a small extract from a membership drive brouchure, and should act as a reminder, as to why you choose to became an engineer. Now to answer the question "Why become a member"

Currently, membership of the institution is voluntary. The dream of the institution is to have every Zimbabwean Engineer and Technician be a member. This ensures that only an appropriately qualified person can start providing engineering services and hence eliminae putting the unknowing public at risk, through poor standards and worksmanship or unscrupulous practices.

Joining the institution should not be based on what the institution can do for us as Engineers and Technicians, but on what you can do for the institution and the profession.

The institution is a platform to meet, discuss, exchange of ideas and information with others in your profession, in meetings, serminars, workshops and conferences, hence improve and grow personally and professionally.

It is through the institution, as a group as a single voice of the engineering profession that we can lobby for changes in our standards of living, work, education and profession and thus make a meaningfull contribution the public's quality of life and living.
