Up until now, the ZIE has been run as a charitable organisation,
sourcing most of its funds primarily first from fund-raising activities
then from its membership and sometimes from generous benefactors. The
squeeze in the economy has left ZIE queuing for funds that have changed
priorities. This has not only put a strain on the service delivery capability
of the Institution but also diverted its attention from the core objectives
and activities necessary to fulfil the perceived purpose.
This 5-year, 2003 - 2008, Strategic Plan is being presented by the ZIE
Council against a background of economic challenges for the country,
an apparent dwindling membership and subsequent erratic revenue base
coupled with an emerging but supportive legislative backup. The Council
has therefore decided to market the Institution and its members in the
same vigorous way that its own constituents are driving society and
the economy in creating wealth. This approach will have achieved among
other things;
- Enhanced Credibility for the Institution.
- Sustainable working capital base for the Institution’s
programmes.
- Visibility and recognition of the institution’s members’
input into
society by society.
- Proactive maximisation of the benefits emanating from the
Engineering Act.
- Self-confidence and self-esteem for its members.
- A strong platform for the exchange and dissemination of
engineering ideas.
- An enabling environment for Wealth Creation.
