Members of the ZIE are drawn from all levels of engineering, as there are different grades of membership catering for all people involved in the engineering industry and profession in Zimbabwe. This, however, excludes artisans. The various grades of membership of the Institution are designed to include all those in Zimbabwe involved in engineering while distinguishing between the various roles fulfilled by its members. The qualifications necessary for each grade of membership are set out in the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers Regulations. Entrance to the various grades of membership is obtained by making an application to the Institution which through its Membership Committee, scrutinises every application and may also interview candidates to assess their suitability for membership. The routes normally adopted to progress from one
grade to another are shown diagrammatically on the membership grade
and status. It is emphasised that paths shown are typical only and membership
may be obtained in any grade for which a person is qualified regardless
