THE Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers (ZIE) is a multi-disciplinary institution covering all aspects of engineering in Zimbabwe, from civil, electrical, mechanical, mining, metalurgy, chemical, and many others. The institution is the sole representative organization for the engineering profession in Zimbabwe. The Institution was founded in 1944 as the Rhodesian Society of Engineers, but it all began at a banquet of the Salisbury Master Builders' Association in 1943. The history and heritage of the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers is best told as stories and in extracts from publications, from our colonial past, when it started as a society with a membership of 128 engineers, 25 associates and 2 students to the institution.. We start off with a summaried history of the institutions which will try to show the growth, evolution and advancement of the institution, from being an society to the Zimbabwe instotution of Engineers.
