Membership : Grades & Status : Technician ...

Technician
There are three possible routes to the grade of Associate Member of the Institution:

Route 1: An applicant for Technician is required to hold a minimum educational qualification of a Diploma from an approved institutionor equivalent and have gained at least two years relevant experience as a Technician after obtaining this qualification.

Route 2: Applicants over the age of 30 years who do not have the required educational qualifications may be admitted to this grade if they can satisfy Council, following an interview and by examination, that they have acquired a satisfactory standard of technical proficiency.

Route 3: This route provides for the direct admission to the grade of Technician of a person holding the equivalent grade of membership in another institution recognised by council.

Basic Qualification Criteria:
A Technician,

  • Normally is of an age above 30 years and above a lower age limit of 21 years,
  • Normally engaged in work of a technical nature,
  • Holds a recognised or accepted qualification in an engineering or techinical field,
  • Must have at least two years of practical and responsible experience,
  • Has acquired a statisfactory technical proficiency.
