There are four possible routes to the grade of Corporate Member of the
Institution:
Route 1: To be eligible for the Grade of
Member a person would normally have a University Degree from an approved
Institution and have had a minimum of three years experience in his/her
field of engineering.
Route 2: Candidates with degrees which are not on the approved
list may be accepted as Graduates but will be required to show to the
satisfaction of the Council that they have thorough training and experience,
and attained an acceptable level of professional competence before being
admitted to the Grade of Member. Guidelines for Graduates from Non-Approved
Institutions
Route 3: Mature Candidate Route to Membership. In exceptional
cases a person who does not hold a recognised engineering qualification
may be admitted to the Grade of Member. In order to do this the candidate
must satisfy the Council that he/she has by experience, or by other
means gained the theoretical knowledge that is expected of an Engineer
and is also carrying out the work of an Engineer. Guidelines for "Mature

Route 4: This route provides for the direct admission
to the Grade of Member of a person holding the equivalent grade of membership
in another institution which is recognised by Council.
Basic Qualification Criteria:
A Corporate Member
- Normally is of an age above 40 years (mature candidate) and above
a lower age limit of 25 years,
- Normally engaged in work such as in administration, design, execution
or operation of professional engineering work or is a lecturer or
teacher of an approved engineering course or is involved in engineering
research work.
- Is either a corporate member of another recognisised institution
or holds a recognised degree or has been educated as a professional
engineer and passed acceptable examinations.
- Must have at least three years of practical experience and the total
period of education, training & experience must be not less than
7 years.
