Membership : Grades & Status : Associate Member ...

Associate Member
There are three possible routes to the grade of Associate Member of the Institution:

Route 1: The Associate Member grade is for those persons who qualify for the grade of Technician and who have at least nine years responsible Technician experience, five years of which must have been in a position of superior responsibilty.

Route 2: In exceptional cases an applicant may be admitted to the Grade of Associate Member without academic qualifications required for Route 1 provided he/she can satisfy Council that he/she has by experience, study and training, gained the theoretical knowledge that would be expected of a Technician and has also held a position of superior responsibility for an acceptable period.

Route 3: This route provides for the direct admission to the grade of Associate Member of a person holding the equivalent grade of membership in another institution recognised by council.

Basic Qualification Criteria:
An Associate Member,

  • Normally is of an age above 35 years and above a lower age limit of 30 years,
  • Normally engaged in work of a technical nature,
  • Holds a recognised or accepted qualification in an engineering or techinical field,
  • Must have at least nine years of practical and responsible experience,
  • Must have at least five years in a position of superior responsibility, and
  • Has acquired a statisfactory standard of technical proficiency and responsiblity.
